Buffalo Races

Buffalo Races Festival is annually held in Chonburi province /80km east of Bangkok/ usually during the first week of October. Farmers from nearby Chonburi bring their buffalo for the festival which dates from centuries ago. Buffalo Races is organised in order people to thank the water buffalo as in the past it was the main force for ploughing the fields.

The festival is very rich of different competitions and contests like Miss Farmer, Buffalo Fancy Dress, Healthy Buffalo, buffalo racing another buffalo and even buffalo racing a man. The festival is accompanied by traditional Thai dancers and music. Different prizes are given like the day’s grand price of 5.000 Baht /~120$/ and various farm equipment.
