It is organized by Chinese residents of Phuket as an ancient belief according to which abstinence from meat will help them obtain good health and peace of mind. You will see people impaling their faces and bodies with various arrays of sharp objects like swords, spears, knifes, daggers and even fish. The attendants in the Phuket Vegetarian Festival are in a trance-like state so don’t bother, they don’t feel the pain.
