Vegetarian Festival

Phuket Vegetarian Festival happens from late September to early October annually. It lasts for ten days. It is organized by Chinese residents of Phuket as an ancient belief according to which abstinence from meat will help them obtain good health and peace of mind. Visiting the Phuket Vegetarian Festival you will witness the most unusual festival in Thailand. You will see people impaling their faces and bodies with various arrays of sharp objects like swords, spears, knifes, daggers and even fish. The attendants in the Phuket Vegetarian Festival are in a trance-like state so don’t bother, they don’t feel the pain.

Surely Phuket Vegetarian Festival is one of the great festivals in Asia. Even more, some people compare it with Brazilian Carnival or Filipini Easter Processions. Most spectators don’t understand it as witnessing such a terrifying ritual.
