Animal Fighting and Betting
Animal Fighting and Betting is actually not a sport but a very interesting occupation for tourists. As betting in Thailand is illegal in Thailand these kinds of activities are done in private places or far from attracting attention usually a hangar or a district of a city. The atmosphere is boisterous and noisy. The fighter-animals are cocks, fishes and crickets.
Thai Cock Fighting is actually the most interesting and cruel. Sometimes but rarely bets can reach up to a million Bahts. Two roosters are put one against other to fight. The fights sometimes can be very gruesome. The roosters kick and peck each other very fast until one dies or gets bad wounds and unable to continue.
Thai Fish Fighting is a another favourite pastime in Thailand. A fish, known as Pla Kat instinctively fight one another whenever they meet. The owners put two of these brightly-coloured male fish into a big bottle or a jar. The fight begins instantly and the end comes after few seconds when one of the fish swims away or dies. Again there are bettings.
Thai Cricket Fighting is mostly practiced by children. Two crickets are placed into a box and the owner of the cricket tickle the insects' heads with straws, stimulating them to fight one another. During the fight, the crickets often produce sounds by rubbing their wings together. The fight is usually short with one running away or being eaten by the other.
